August 15, 2007 at 9:07 pm | In RMS Staff | No CommentsThe month of October is celebrated worldwide, honoring students from age 10 – 15 since 1997. Originally created by the National Middle School Association, this program highlights the unique characteristics and needs of young adolescents – middle school students. Most adolescents say they need from adults – - – - – -
Attention so I don’t feel lonely and left out
Encouragement
More time to talk to my friends
Respect my aspirations without crushing them
Let me make mistakes
Be my role model
LISTEN to my opinion and ideas
That’s a hefty order, but one that we must address each and every day as a faculty and staff of a successful middle school. In order to celebrate the Month of the Young Adolescent I am asking that we especially focus on activities that allow students to see, hear, and understand that we acknowledge who they are in and out school. In order for you to plan appropriately I am including a list of activities that our school will be involved in during October. If you can tie into these activities through curricular support, extra curricular activities, or in any way, I would be most appreciative.
10.1 – A special treat at lunch for all students provided by the principal and teachers. (Thinking about a large sheet cake with a school and RMS on it.)
10.4 – Have a breakfast snack ready in a bag to give people as they drop off their child at school in the morning.
10.8 – AM Announcements center on a good deed that a young adolescent has accomplished (Maybe someone from RMS)
10.15 – Have a political person come and talk during advisory today.
10.17 – Pick ten students that you teach and call their parents with a “good news” message
10.22-26 – RMS Penny War to support our Foster Child
10.29 – Mini concert during Advisory
Wow! What a month of great things to celebrate the kids we teach.
Lets Celebrate!
